These vacant and much neglected premises used to house Whickers Greengrocers, which shut approximately 3 years ago. Originally they were a group of 3 Grade ll listed shops with 2 floors of vacant floorspace above. A pleasant (well, in their time) Georgian / Victorian range right at the heart of Selby town centre.

Ward Associates Planning Consultancy has finally secured listed building and planning permission for a fairly radical scheme which involves the substantial rebuilding of the rear of the range, including the re-modelling of their characteristic off-shots.

It has taken Richard Borrows, Planning Consultant and Andrew Jenkins, Director of DWA Architects to get planning, following lengthy and often frustrating discussions both with English Heritage and Selby District Council.

Two interesting aspects of the project have been; the re-introduction of residential accomodation at first and second floor, after an absense of over 30 years and the extension of the retail floor area, such that a number of well known national retailers have expressed an interest.

Whilst Richard has just about finished the project now, Andrew Jenkins will carry on with the job of carrying the matter forward to Building Regulation consent and beyond.
